DeAngelis for Middlebury

Planning Ahead for Middlebury

Dominic, Rex and Sophia DeAngelis

Your last chance to vote against mediocrity, high taxes and affordable housing. Vote DeAngelis , vote for real change. Vote for intelligence.

If you were Tom Gormley or Bob Desmarais would YOU debate me?

This morning’s Waterbury newspaper  reported that Mr. Gormely has added a new name to his “enemies” list. This time it was a town employee who had the audacity to run against Mr. Gormley in the current election. I guess there is no room for democracy in the present administrations’ scheme of things.

This shameful action is just another example of the Desmarais/Gormley administration reaching out against anyone who disagrees with them.

Desmarais/Gormley call me Dr. No. Why? Because I am the only candidate to say “no” to a tax increase in 2010. I say no to the idea of the BOS refusing to get involved in Region 15 budgeting matters. I say no to spending 2.4 million dollars for a 1.4 million dollar communications system.

I also say no to the Desmarais/Gormley plan to build 600 units of affordable housing in Middlebury. In fact, my first act  will be to withdraw the Desmarais/Gormley Middlebury Affordable Housing Grant. I stopped the building of nearly 400 apartment style units with underground parking at Straw Pond and I’ll stop this grant from being submitted.

Vote for me on Nov. 3, I’m the third name down. Together we’ll put educated, intelligent professionals in the town hall.

Remember , in regard to political signs, its not size that matters but the intelligence behind the sign.

Bob Desmarais and Tom Gormley had a grant application put together for the Town of Middlebuy that brings up to 600 affordable houses to our town. Want to see the application? Look to the right on this screen and click “Tom’s low income housing grant”.

Pat will discuss this issue among others on his TV Cable show at 7 on Channel 13 this Monday night.

Why no debates?

Pat DeAngelis would love to debate the Desmarais/Gormlely team but he understands why they won’t debate him. If Mr. Desmarais debated Mr. DeAngelis Desmarais would have to explain:

a. Why he supported Gormley’s 20 percent budget increases in 07,08.

b. Why he supported Gormley’s closing of the transfer station two days a week,

c. Why he supported Gormley’s gutting the health care contract of town employees,

d. Why he supported Gormley’s wanting to spend 2.4 million dollars for a 1.4 million dollar communications system,

All in all, Mr. Desmarais would need to explain, on TV, why he agreed with nearly every one of Tom Gormley’s less than successful town initiatives over the last two years. In fact, in going over minutes of town meetings we cannot find ONE time whereby Mr. Desmarais ever disagreed with Mr. Gormley. They are both one side of the same coin.

Okay, okay. Let’s go over this one more time. The Police have been waiting for a safe communications system since the Roosevelt administration. So, now the Desmarais/Gormlely team want to buy a 2.5 million dollar system even though a 1.4 million dollar system is available. The Finance Bd. says WHOA. The Finance Board wants the two people proposing the two systems to appear before the Finance Bd. on Nov. 2 to “explain” their systems. Remember the movie Groundhog Day when Bill Murray relives the same day over and over? Well, here we go again. The problem is simple: THERE IS NO LEADERSHIP COMING FROM the Desmarais/Gormley team. None, nada. I will see that the Police get their system in the first few months of my administration.

What about Bob Desmarais. Well go look at the minutes of the BOS meetings and see how Bob voted in agreement with Tom at LEAST 16 TIMES. He’s no Democrat, he’s a Republicrat.

I will cut spending. I WILL LOWER THE MILL RATE  and I, using my connections built up over 30 years at Naugatuck Valley Community College will bring cultural events to the town. I unlike Bob Desamaris will not be a rubber stamp to anybody. Especially somebody like Tom Gormley.

You should vote for Pat’s  platform:

a. Stop the steady increase in property tax,

b. Utilize the community college up the road to bring cultural events to town.

c. Mow the grass! Fix the roads. Work with developers to bring downtown Middlebury back to life.

d. Stop squeezing money from the town employees while  Mr. Gormley charges $ 1.25 in “expenses” to go from Town Hall to the Police Station.

e. Stop punishing taxpayers by closing the dump , the library and the MRA.

f. Work WITH Region 15. Those are not “Region 15″ children those are “OUR” children. I am a trained contact negotiator. I know how to work with educators.

FRACTURED FAIRY TALES OR WHY THE MIDDLEBURY REPUBICAN TOWN COMMITTEE IS SUCH A MESS.

The Middlebury Republican Town Committee meets tonight. The entire meeting will be in Executive Session so that no peasants are allowed. Under the leadership of Mike McDonald, recent recipient of a land swap given to him by Tom Gormley , Bob Desmarais and Elaine Strobel that allows him to build on previously “unbuildable” land the Gormley campaign will limp along. What about John Cookson? Why is John always shoved in the background? Well, who cares? Mike McDonald tried to have Ed St. John thrown off the RTC. We understand that some anti-St. John members said nothing but what really cracks us up is that some of his big time “friends” like Terry Smith sat there and said nothing. These guys have no courage of their convictions, if they have convictions at all. We fought with Ed, even sued him twice, but we wouldn’t try any childish stunt  like throwing him off an elected committee. Do you really want these guys running your town.?

a. Special favors for special Republican Town Committee Members,\ handed out by this administration,

b. Complaints people have told us they have as we walk around town,

c. Why do we need a Police Commission if we don’t need a Fire Commission,

d. Why is the town such a mess physically?

e. Where is the economic development?

f. The next tax increase should  such be a doosey. We understand that it will be almost double last year’s increase

Why won’t Tom Gormley or Bob Desmarais debate Pat DeAngelis?

The BOS, Gormley/Desmarais/Strobel wasted $ 59,000 of your money on an “audit” of Washington Drive that produced NOTHING.

The three BOS members now want to hire a consultant for 50,000 AFTER THE FACT. For two years they twiddled their thumbs while doing nothing at Triangle Blvd. Now they want to hire a consultant, SURPRISINGLY, just before the election.  Why not two years ago?

Also surprisingly the dump will now, ONE MONTH BEFORE THE ELECTION, be re-opened on Wednesday. These people have never seen a vote they wouldn’t try to buy.

Should you waste your vote on Republicrats like Gormley and Desmarais?

Is Tom Gormley really a Republican and is Bob Desmarais really a Democrat? Or are they just two fireman having a ball spending town money?

Both guys voted for a 12 percent budget increase in 2008.

Both guys voted for a 7 percent budget increase in 2009.

That’s almost a 20 percent spending increase in a two-year period.

That’s not all:

On Sept. 8, 2009 Republicrats Gormley and Desmarais voted to swap town land so that the McDonald property at the end of  Foster Street would be able to be developed. Gee, thanks, Tom and Bob.

On June 6, 2009 Firemen and Repubicrats Gormley and Desmarais voted to sell a town fire engine.

On April 16, 2009 Republicrats Gormley and Desmarais voted to purchase two new Police cars.

On May 5 Desmarais, with the vocal support of Paul Perrotti wanted to give Mr. Gormlely a town car. Upset because he didn’t get his own town car Mr. Gormlely continues to bill the town $ 1.25 in expenses to travel from the Town Hall to the Police Station.

In the past two years we can’t find one time that Desmarais and Gormley disagreed on anything. Gormley is a tax and spend Republican while Desmarias is a mirror image of his fellow fireman Gormlely.

Did your salary go up 20 per cent in the past two years? Well Mr. Gormley and Mr. Desmarais seemed to thinks so because that is how much they increased spending.
